... When I say stolen, I really mean inspired. It's hard to deny though after seeing this:

Hi.

My guess would be that half the band names are either stolen from or inspired by an existing name, acronym, slogan or design.

Whether that's a problem to either party, that's another thing.

The examples are countless:

Canned Heat
D.A.D
KISS (what ever You may think the acronym is )
Any band name with food in it, etc.

Regards
Sam

On a related note, anyone notice the new Godsmack song has lyrics "By the way, I tried to say I'd be there", just like "By the Way" by RHCP? (Also, the chorus seems to have a resemblance to a certain King Crimson song....)

NOTE: I don't really mean to bash Godsmack, so no flaming please. Also, if you're wondering why I was listening to them, radio>silence, but radio still sucks

That's a close one. I would sue if I was RHCP.

You posted this and forgot to mention that their band name was "stolen" from the title of an Alice in Chains song.

Fats Domino - Chubby Checker
The Crickets -The Beetles
The Beetles - The Monkees
The Who - The Guess Who
Iron Butterfly - Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin - Def Leppard

etcetera, etcetera.

This one is pretty blatant though.

...I really posted not to call them "stealers" or anything, just because I remember reading that Anthony came up with the name while he was tripping behind the hollywood sign. He saw it in a burning bush or some BS... this would be a much more likely explanation as to their inspiration.

I love how you misspelled the beatles to make it look like the monkees

Oh yeah. Geez. I meant the spelling modification (beetles to Beatles, monkeys to Monkees) but.... Hey, it's been a long week.

That album was released in, what, 1972? And they broke up shortly thereafter when Snakefinger moved to the US and started collaborating with The Residents. RHCP's first gig was in 1983. No case.

The band's name is just Kiss -- the word, not an acronym for anything. The band's logo just happens to use all captial letters.

If I remember correctly (and that's a big if) Paul Stanley knew of another band named Suck. I think.

And Godsmack is the name of a song from Alice In Chains!
