Ridiculous Drummer Club

Sign in to disble this ad
This is a club for players like me, who play in a band who's drummer fills so much and so ridiculously that you're sure it's going to fall apart, and then he gets back in the groove. Just like Keith Moon with the Who, he pushes things to the very edge.... I don't mind though, good challenge for me as a bassist.... anybody else with this situation? Anyone else who actually kind of enjoy the experience and feel like the band would not be the same without the crazy, manic, bash-a-de-drums percussionist behind the set?

Not currently, but I was in a group for a long time that had that sort of drummer. Everyone probably has a different opinion of what overplaying is, but for me, he wasn't overplaying, just really pushing the envelope. It actually forced me to grow as a musician.

I don't know that I've been challenged the same way since. Not to say I'm not still learning, because I am, and all the groups I'm in at the moment have great musicians. It's just not at the bleeding edge of progress like it was. On the flip side, I'm focusing on different things now with my playing, which might be considered more subtle. Everything goes is cycles.
