I was watching the third volume of "Beatles Anthology" last night, the episode which covers the Beatles' first trip to America. It contains footage from the Ed Sullivan Show performances and their Washington DC concert.

Ringo effing ROCKED!!! He may have not had the greatest technical chops in the world, but man, oh man did he ever DRIVE!! You can see in his playing that he is really getting into the rock and roll bigtime. I hadn't noticed this level of intensity that he brought to the group. It actually reminded me of Keith Moon footage!

I agree Phil, I have the 'Star Club' CD recorded in Hamburg just after he joined the band, and he rules the show He really has a lot of drive and energy, perfect for their style at the time.

Always loved that little fill that kicks off 'She loves you' - still gives me a little thrill even now

It's amazing what happens when you're doing something you REALLY love. He was having so much fun and not taking anything seriously. Very relaxed but energetic.

On a side note, I'm just finishing reading Spitz Beatles biography (its only taken me a year) and man does it make Yoko look bad and a big part of the break up. I always thought maybe she wasn't that big a part of it but I guess not.

I really like to hear about Ringo. It was cool to watch some of the music videos and to see how much he enjoyed what he was doing. When I had longer hair, he was one of the people(along with Giligan and Shaggy) that people who knew me said I looked like.

I never appreciated the dude until recently, I mean sure the dude wasn't very technical but he was VERY solid, and solid is good.
