so Din of Win just linked this on facebook.. and I figured it should be posted here.
"The entire Ampeg family is very sad to report that Jess Oliver has passed away. Ampeg simply wouldn’t exist were it not for Jess. As the inventor of the Ampeg B-15, Baby Bass and a litany of other groundbreaking Ampeg and Oliver original designs, the entire music industry owes a great debt to Jess and his creations. Please join us in offering condolences to his family. This would also be an excellent time to celebrate Jess’ many accomplishments by using this post to comment on your personal experience with Jess and his amps. His amps will undoubtedly serve as a living testament to the man who was brave enough to “turn up the volume.”

I happen to have purchased a 1958 that Jess restored and signed the power transformer. It is by far the sweetest amp that I have ever owned and am thankful for the connection that led it's way to me.
Jess will be greatly missed by all.
He was an icon in bass history. |

A brilliant, kind man - I would have loved to meet him.
RIP Mr Bass Amp!
