RIP... Jess Oliver. wow.

Sign in to disble this ad
so Din of Win just linked this on facebook.. and I figured it should be posted here.

"The entire Ampeg family is very sad to report that Jess Oliver has passed away. Ampeg simply wouldn’t exist were it not for Jess. As the inventor of the Ampeg B-15, Baby Bass and a litany of other groundbreaking Ampeg and Oliver original designs, the entire music industry owes a great debt to Jess and his creations. Please join us in offering condolences to his family. This would also be an excellent time to celebrate Jess’ many accomplishments by using this post to comment on your personal experience with Jess and his amps. His amps will undoubtedly serve as a living testament to the man who was brave enough to “turn up the volume.”

Passing of Jess

A bandleader that I recently worked for became close friends with Jess and he sent probably 10 B-15's and several B-18's over the years to Jess for restoration. I happen to have purchased a 1958 that Jess restored and signed the power transformer. It is by far the sweetest amp that I have ever owned and am thankful for the connection that led it's way to me.
Jess will be greatly missed by all.
He was an icon in bass history.

I do believe that many Ampegs on stages worldwide will be turned up a notch higher this weekend in his honor.

Sorry soundguys, but you're just gonna have to deal with it.

DANG! Last year, I almost sent my old B-15 to him to be restored by it's Daddy - my friend would have dropped it off for me. Now I have to restore it in his honor.

A brilliant, kind man - I would have loved to meet him.

RIP Mr Bass Amp!
