Many of you might ask, "Who?" Please read the article, because this man had an enviable resume as a producer and collaborator: The Stones, Sam & Dave, Aretha, Big Star, Ry Cooder's "Paris, Texas" soundtrack, the Replacements, Dylan's "Time Out of Mind"...I truly admire his taste. RIP, Mr. Dickinson.

I'd swear I first heard of Jim Dickinson as the producer for some late period Byrds albums, but now I can't find that citation...

A sad loss of great producer. He produced some artists that profoundly influenced my playing; Aretha and Sam and Dave to name a couple.

I've said this before, but I thought Jim Dickinson had a great line while being interviewed several years back. The interviewer was asking him how he got such a great bass sound on a CD he had produced. Jim replied, "A Fender Precision with flatwound strings. Just as God intended..."

His sons, Luther and Cody are excellent musicians as well. R.I.P. indeed...
