Ashford and his wife,Valerie Simpson were a perfect match in every way. They were also a great live act that I had the pleasure of seeing during the Eighties in SC. I remember when they came to Atlanta while I working there right out of high school. The bill was them and Michael Henderson. I had to work that night, but I still think that must have been the best bill ever, especially fo couples.

Of course, they were supreme songwriters too!
