Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller wrote an astonishing number of hit songs for variety of artists, most notably Elvis Presley. 15 #1 hits with 10 different artists. As if the loss of Nick Ashford wasn't enough RIP Mr. Leiber and Mr. Ashford, and thanks for so many great songs.
Ditto that. We all owe far more to Jerry and Mike than we can imagine. They really set the pace for Rock and Roll. Not only many hits but a wide variety of sounds. To think that "Hound Dog" for Big Mama Thorton and later Elvis all the way to "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" for Carly Simon all came from the same minds. Check out the musical "Smokey Joe's Cafe" for a real taste of what Leiber and Stoller could do and for a great feel for early Rock and Roll.
