Risky Bass Lines

OK everyone here is an idea that I had...I want you to list the most risky, ballsiest bass lines you can think of....here is what I mean...some bass parts push the envelope....but for some reason, in the time and place they were created, they worked....these are the bass parts you listen to and think..."What was he/she thinking?" But somehow, it worked in that exact time and place...My first pick for this category is Surprise Valley by Widespread Panic....it is very aggressive and very well played....Put some thought into it and share some of these risky lines with the rest of us...

I post this over and over again - call me a broken record, but Tracy Wormworth's line on "Christmas Rapping" by the Waitresses is envelope-pushing and unexpected. The song has the veneer of a goofy novelty number, but that bass line is world-class!

One that I understand what he's shooting for, but I think he just missed is the Grass Roots' "Midnight Confessions."

Every time I hear it- it gets too cluttered and busy during the chorus. With the line as busy as it is, just being off a touch makes a big difference.

I brought this up here a couple years ago and took a beating for it.

The kicker to me is that just simplifying the riff/run thing just a touch makes it run so much smoother.

IMO YMMV...

for some reason, i always thought that it was a blondie song.
but yeh, it's a great song.

Nope - The Waitresses. And yep, that line is a killer.

I think it speaks very favorably about the band and the producer to have a bass player bring something like that line to the table and for them to NOT say, "Whoa!!! What are you doing? What's with all those notes and intricate riffy licks? Tone it down a notch, huh Tracy? Too much coffee this morning?"

"Escape" by Jonas Hellborg. It's all tied up so tightly, guff it or fluff a single note and it'll all come crashing down!
