Robert Fripp was on the Microsoft campus a few weeks back. He's the famous guitarist and composer, known for his founding role in the band King Crimson. Charles Torre (a big King Crimson fan) was invited over by Steve Ball to film the session.
Interesting.

oh, do check out the link: there's a video there (home video style, alas)

I imagine they pay him quite handsomly.

In the video, it appears that the recording engineer is using ProTools on Windows, though. Figures.

Shades of when Brian Eno did the "Microsoft Sound" for Windows 95.

Sell out.

It's cool seeing him talk/do his thang.

I didn't know Eno did the Win 95 sound... that's funny.

Shame on him

I'll fogive him this time, due to his illustrious career, tremendous creativity, and fine musicianship.

I don't think Fripp or Eno are sell-outs (I know you were just kidding) in composing these sound bites. I think its a pretty cool gig. What a great opportunity to plant a little seed of a sound in the heads of a lot of people who never would hear your sounds otherwise. And hand it to MS for having somebody with enough taste to hire these guys instead of some "flavor-of-the-month" pop star to do it.

Maybe MS should hire some cutting edge graphic artists to design some "Windows Schemes" so we have a fresh look to go with the sounds

I can't believe he let himself be videotaped.

I expected him to get up halfway and be like, "Alright.. do you want me to keep going? Turn off the camera... jeez... I'm going to have to start over now... did I just see a flash?!?!"
