I think this guy refinished it in 1986, according to the article.

Same bass Rob is playing in the pic, I assume. It just looks lighter in that lighting

I thought he bought it and returned it to Jaco's family......so he's basically out playing Jaco's bass because he could afford to buy it and is taking the instrument of a legend and playing metallica tunes on it...

Slow down, killer. It was refinished before you were born and before Metallica released ...And Justice For All. In other news I hear Metallica blew up an oil rig just south of Venice, Louisiana.

Please, before everyone sees the pictures, reads the article,
and comes back to call you an idiot, just go back and read the
piece. Then you will know that Trujillo is the hero, not the
sinner. The bass was restored many years before he saved it.
The picture shows the luthier giving it back to Jaco after the restoration.
Then come back and make the appropriate apology.

Fella, read the article before you go on a flame fest.

Hint: read the article. It's in a vault right now; Trujillo only played once.

This just in: Metallica is responsible for the assasination of Franz Ferdinand, setting into motion a series of events that would lead to WWI.

They also steadfastly refuse to free Willy.

Breaking news: Metallica did, indeed, steal the cookie from the cookie jar.

This is why....
"Because the bass looks so pristine now, some may question the instrument’s authenticity, as Pastorius was well known to have basically destroyed it by the mid-1980s. But Pastorius shipped the broken instrument back to his bass tech in pieces in 1986; Kevin Kaufman and fellow luthier Jim Hamilton then dedicated over 150 hours to rebuilding the instrument."
