You mean you don't agree that Joni Mitchell is a better guitar player than Dimebag Darrell? According to this she is....

That was my first thought! AL at 98??? I know he tends to get overshadowed by the other two in the band but cmon. Some of those high on the chart are, um, surprising.

In no way, shape, or form was Elmore James a better guitarist than T-Bone Walker.

It is nice to see the blues guys get their due tho.

Eric Johnson isn't on this list, and Keith Richards, Pete Townshand, and George Harrison are ahead of Stevie Ray Vaughn. This list is horrible.

Oh, and James Hetfield is a better guitar player than Dimebag Darrel?

At least he got Warren Haynes but I think he left Jeff Beck of the list. Neither list had Gary Moore or Robben Ford

Yup, Lifeson that high on the list, no Gary Moore or Steve Howe. This is why I don't waste my time reading Rolling Stone.

RS Mag sucks. Again they Failed. SRV is #12??? Are you kidding me? Zappa #22? Prince #33?
I'm sick of this magazine. How the hell does Eddie VanHalen go from 70 something in 2003 to top 10 7 yrs later. He didn't do anything in the last 8 years to get a jump like that.
And no Steve Howe?? OMG.

It's a list of the "greatest." Not "most talented," or "technically proficient." A list such as this is too subjective to rate. I don't agree with Clapton at #2, and I don't agree with Keith Richards at #4. I take exception to leaving Steve Howe off, as well as Rock Nielsen, and a number of others mentioned above.

I do think they got #1 right. I know it seems easy, but far too many people make that mistake.

Jimi Hendrix is THE Greatest Guitar Player of All Time, and I don't care how many guys could play faster, or with more feeling, or whatever else case someone wants to make. The fact is, Jimi Hendrix approached playing rock guitar in a new and innovative way, and inspired generations of players; he excelled at a number of styles; his leads and his rhythm playing were exceptional for the era, and in many ways, for any era, and he pushed the boundaries of available technology like no one before or since.

Add to that the fact that he was a pretty nice guy; wrote great songs; had a real genuine poetic quality that wasn't put on, and could say "sock it to me one time" without ever sounding dated, even today, and I am proud to call him my biggest rock hero.

So I'm going to go ahead and be thankful for Jimi Hendrix at number one, and dismiss much of the rest of the list.

Albert King at #13? That's not cool, man.

Peter Green was a better blues player than Eric Clapton. Discuss.

Yes, and where is Steve Hackett? Robert Fripp nr.62? Fripp can play like 4 Claptons, and the Claptons are damn good!

When they asked J. Hendrix who he thought was the best guitar player he pointed at RS's #57: Rory Gallagher
