Rush Fans HELP!

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm making a disc for a 22 year old guitard....i'm trying to educate him..... looking for a good cross section of Rush music to fill an 80 minute disc. (Can you believe all he has ever heard is Tom Sawyer?)

so far this is what i have come up with which totals 76 minutes give or take a few seconds

The Spirit of Radio
The Trees
Freewill
Xanadu
Closer to the Heart
2112 Overture/Temple of Syrinx
Working Man
Fly by Night
Limelight
Tom Sawyer
Red Barchetta
New World Man
Subdivisions
Distant Early Warning

that basically covers 1974 to 1987 i think not a big fan of the stuff that came after...

did i leave anything out possibly Time Stands Still? YYZ?

I tried to pick something from every record but it was just too hard...too much material so i just picked my favs...

anything you would have put on here that i didn't?

If he hasn't heard Tom Sawyer, then he probably hasn't heard YYZ.

You're gonna need a couple more disks....

See that 'Analog Kid" gets on one of them.

Its all of 2112 or nothing. I cant imagine that song without Presentation.

Maybe La Villa Strangiato. You picked fairly cookie-cutter greatest hits song though, I would give him something from Presto, RTB or GUP aswell, they are fairly overlooked albums in a fairly overlooked period of Rush.

Cinderella Man would be another good one aswell. Or anything from Caress of Steel.

But seriously, this will take a couple more CDs.

All good ones so far. I'd also add Jacob's Ladder.

You have to explain to to you friend that 30 yrs of great music is not going to fit on one CD.

Driven, Roll The Bones, Show Don't Tell, Malignant Narcissism, One Little Victory......you know, you could fit a lot more on it if you made a mp3 cd!

Definitely Bytor, In the End (offa All the World's a Stage, preferably), and Kid Gloves (alex's wackiest solo)

I'd certainly include Far Cry, Workin' Them Angels, and/or Malignant Narcissism off their newest, Snakes & Arrows.

I don't know that Working Man is good enough to hang with the rest of that list.

I'd definitely include YYZ and La Villa Strangiato. I'd probably replace Working Man with Circumstances or Manhattan Project.

And how about The Main Monkey Business or Faithless?

You know what's a good rocking song with lots of big strumming distorted chords and virtually no guitar solo? The Big Wheel, off the Roll The Bones album. Nothing too tough, a few bar chords, but a lot of fun to play.

Natural Science from the Permanent waves album is great lesson in odd time signatures.

Add Circumstances, By-Tor and In The End. The Fountain Of Lamneth is a cool song too but it's very long so it might not fit on the CD.

I know some don't like Big Money, but IMHO it has one of the best Geddy Less bass lines ever. --Kent
