Rush/Geddy Lee related

I wasn't sure whether to stick this in amps or bassists, so I just threw it in the Misc forum. Mods, please move it if this isn't the place for it....

Geddy does not use cabs, essentially he is using the PA/FOH as his cabs and in-ears for personal monitoring.

What are the people with the good seats in the front row/centre hearing? If the bass is coming from the FOH they're not going to hear much of it being in the very front since the PA is typically set up on the ends of the stage. They can't hear the bass in the stage mix because Geddy doesn't use cabs.

Can anybody comment? Possibly someone who has been front row/centre at a Rush concert?

I think there's some sort of cab-bage underneath the stage.

The rotisseries that he has spinning when I saw them in September sounded amazing.

To answer the OP, you will hear the PA, probably get a better sound than most other places in the arena as well.

You also have a better chance to get any of the T-Shirts from the washing machines. --Kent

Geddy's fingers are so magical, they produce amp-like tones by themselves. No cabs required.

FOH

bass is pretty non directional and tends to fill the room as it oozes all over the place.... so they should hear it better than anything else....i think

Actually if you are in the front row, and I was this past May, you do not hear the FOH system. It is overhead and you are parallel with it. You may get some of the bass bins that are on the bottom and to each side of the stage. What you actually hear are small speakers maybe the size of a monitor that are on the stage pointing out to the crowd. You get the FOH mix through that. The sound is good but I don't think you get quite the same oomph as you would from being in maybe the 10th or 15th row where you get the full onslaught of the FOH system.
