| | | | A sad day for me.. my bass has been stolen..

My drummer and I stopped at a music store, we needed a head for his snare, he has an old ford cougar, i swear that the trip from car-store-car lasted 5 minutes, we didn't found the head, we were in a hurry because we had a gig in an hour, when we left, the car was no longer there, and my beautyful Warwick Streamer Jazzman was in the back seat.....
I never thought this would happen, I always care my bass well because unfortunately my country is very dangerous, but just today i forgot to bring the bass with me..
Fortunately the drummer's cellphone was left inside the car, which means there is a possible direct contact with the thief, but now i'm afraid and don't know what to do: make a complaint with the police? or wait for the thief to call us and reach a bailout agreement?....

| | | | Wow. That's a shame. I wouldn't call the police, in my experience they're pretty useless with this sort of stuff and won't take it very seriously. I'd try to contact the theif, because at least you have a small chance of getting it back. |

Not sure why you wouldn't immediately call the police? They stole a car and there's a tracking device in it. Can't a cellphone be easily tracked these days? And why would someone who stole the car be expected to be kind enough to give you back your bass if ya called them? Would seem odd for them to answer the phone, don't ya think? I don't know where you're from, but round my parts they wouldn't be giving you anything back.
Good luck. And I'd keep my eyes glued to ebay and craigslist . |

And +1 to everything Joe said. Not contacting the police is just plain dumb.

O'h call the bad guys and tell them where you live so they can bring your guitar right over. Might mention that you may be out and the keys are under the door mat, just open the door and leave it in the living room.
OK, I've had my fun ---- how about your friends insurance - would your stuff be covered on his policy? Your house hold insurance may kick in, however, the deductible may make this a mute point.
Sorry - get the insurance people involved.

Then have them trace the phone, YES they can do that, hopefully if you do this quickly you may have a chance to find the thief(s). Good luck and sorry for your loss.

The car aspect-depends on lots of factors. Memphis police yawn at the news of a NEW car being stolen. I'm not joking. We're talking nice neighborhoods, or businesses located way out East for a thief. My father's 2 year old Buick was abandoned at almost the same spot-almost exactly a year later...And, if they catch a car thief in Memphis, no big deal. What a world!

YOUR CAR WAS STOLEN!!!! Is it common in England to just say, "Aw shucks, they stole my car," and move on? |

I'd still be upset if someone stole it.
