At least in New York state you're supposed to report and pay the taxes on any out of state orders.
Now in the real world no way.

I would say the chance of them doing that is very slim.

I did have a friend from Pennsylvania that recently got charged a nice bill for all the cigarettes he had purchased online from a reservation. My guess is they were required to give up his order information. That's about the only way they could chase you down, the seller would have to give you up.

I hope that makes sense.

Bottom line I don't think they are going to put you in jail for not paying taxes on an out of state bass or gear. Now a house or car might be a bit more risky.

some states in the US sales tax based on where you are using the item not where you bought it. In the case of michigan you should report all goods you bought in other states and for which you did not paid taxes.
