Same bassist, different genres?

Who plays in two or more bands from different genres?

I've got an indie-rock / prog-hardcore split going on, and I'm starting a live drum and bass group as well.

There's got to be others out there, with even more disparate styles. Big band crooner / death metal, say

I find that it's split my taste in basses down the middle, I love my Warwick for heavy music, but it's just too much for a slow alt-country ballad.

I'm in an indie/alternative rock band that has been more progressive and melodic, and is now a bit simpler and driving. I'm also in a southern rock/hardcore band, and have been in a post-hardcore/screamo band.

Hm.
I left my jazz group to tour with a pop-punk band, which I left to join a gypsy jazz trio.
And I seem to have a rock/alternative/pop/blues gig next week...

My band has always messed around in a bunch of styles, part of the reason we cant get "fans". Its usually lighter stuff, but we have played reggae, funk, classic rock, punk, les claypool brand metal, beatles stuff, ambient stuff, rap/hip hop... probably others but don't feel like remembering more. Oh, we have a song where I pay ukulele... haha

But thats just with the same people, not different bands.

As for famous people, Les Claypool's oysterhead stuff sounds nothing like what he usually does. Ben Kenney - guitar player from The Roots, plays bass for Incubus now. Thats all I can think of currently though...

I play in jazz combos, musical pits, hard rock bands, folk bands, and at one point a metal band. I've always played a variety of styles at the same time. I find they all help each other. Granted-i use different basses for the different gigs. Jazz goes to my Upright. Rock/Pop goes to the Ray5. The Fenders are my main studio basses. The 6 is for a duo project i'm working on.

I play in two metal bands, and was in a short lived electro-soul mashup. I also play a lot of different varieties of classical music on DB.

I have been playing in a New Country parody band for the last 15 years or so...my other bands are usually 'originals'-first & have run the gamut from Free Funk to Rap Rock to DMB-pop to my current thing: jazzy Groove/R&B.

Guess which one pays me 4 bills each show & which one just got $50 for the entire band of 4 guys.

I play in a thrash band, a technical death metal band, and two jazz groups. I also sub on rock cover band and funk gigs.

It was really, really weird at first being able to wear a lot of different musical hats. Then I realized that it's all the same language and you're just playing different dialects.

However, to be able to really get the nuances of a lot of different styles, I have to practice a lot of different styles. And listen to a large amount of different genres.

Exactly. I feel that way with the different genres of jazz in addition to the other stuff. How i play a walking line on a bebop head is different than i'd walk on a more "standard-y" tune. It sounds off, but it makes sense to me.
