Are there any laws to sampling? Like how long a sample can be, or if you always need premission from the artist before useing samples?. My band is heading in an industrial direction and I don't want to get in trouble.

Thanks

The rule is up to 4 bars.

But, as a side note, you might want to be careful to make sure whatever you take is THAT recognizable. Maybe apply some effects if you're really concerned.
