Saw John Mayer for free today!

All I can say? WOW. This guy's a monster!

he was playing for free at Younge/Dundas Square to promote the new Best Buy opening up.
But seriously? this guy is ridiculous. I thought he was a guitar player that the ladies loved and he did it for the money. not a chance. This man is in it entirely for the music, and it shows when he plays.

Even though it was a killer concert, Pino wasn't playing but, that's okay. De La was alright. He's no Pino though.

Yeah, "John Mayer" is a pop act, but "The John Mayer Trio" or however band members he has now, is a pretty kickin' blues act. He likes to do both, but he seems to get more from the blues. I actually wonder if he'll ever go back to the pop act. Maybe he just used it to get attention to his blues music.

He said that in an interview. What he loves is blues. What sells is pop. So he put out a couple albums to get known before doing what he loves.

I don't think he's completely going back. New album coming out is a bit more pop than JM3 but not quite.

Helluva player. One of my favorite guitarists out there for sure.

His new album is good. Mostly acoustic stuff. I believe that the trio played on his new album. not sure.

The concert was...probably more pop. He only played for about an hour. But, he knows what he's gotta play to sell. Pop. The girls there LOVED him! Ridiculous.

He's a pretty good guitarist, one of the best around in blues right now. He does a pretty good Stevie Ray Vaughan impression too.

If you are going to throw out random current events from Hollywood, keep them current.

John Mayer's guitar playing is great! I'm seeing him next month in London. Anyone know who's playing his current tour? I'm hoping Pino will play it but I suspect De la.

+1 on prefering JM3 to the pop.

+1 While I totally dig Pino in general, this guys sounds MUCH better with John, IMO... cleaner, brighter tone, and a groove and vibe that just seems to sit better to me (IMO of course). I guess part of it is the nice, articulate J Bass with roundwound sound of David versus the P Bass with flats thing that Pino seems to be into today.

Ha, De La's profile "about me" is fantastic:
I don't know much about myself because I was separated at birth. My neighbors might know more. Oh, I like sandwiches.

Yeah, this was a good quote from him last year:

""I'm done with acoustic guitar, balladeering, I'm done with acoustic groove. Acoustic groove sucks so bad," moans the boyish singer-songwriter. "I've sucked the flavor out of it."
