Small venue, great sound system, great concert. Melvin flippin' RIPS! He had some incredible 8va runs with Lee that just blew me away. Also he used an envelope follower (BassIQ or similar) on a bunch of tunes. The funk was so thick you could cut it.

Melvin is severly underrated as a bassist and as a composer.

Nice. Melvin's sound is massive! Other than Marcus Miller, I haven't heard another bassist with such a massive sonic presence!

I'm jealous- my Overtime DVD is probably the closest I'll ever get to seeing those two play.

I got to see him at last years Norfolk Jazz Fest playing with Eric Marienthal! He took a solo that could be heard blocks away his sound was so huge! Tom Kennedy was on the same bill! Great weekend for me! Have patience, I'm sure he'll roll through Conn. soon! I have a friend/promoter who lives in Conn. who promotes smooth jazz concerts (http://www.neko-productions.com/special.html).

Speaking of Mr. Davis, here is on O'Bryan's remake of the Soul Train theme song:

That bass added some serious flavor to that track with a sick solo to boot!!!

He is wearing out a Music Man Stingray on the track that is playing when accessing his website:
