I went and saw Rush at the Boston Garden last night. What an incredible show. Geddy, Alex and Neil were right on top of thier game. They did the whole Moving Pictures album from start to finish. Didn't miss a step. If you have a chance to go see them this tour do it.

wow that sounds cool, is geddy actually using speakers or is he still using the vending machine setup. or whatever houshold appliance of choice.

I forget what tour it was but the stage was loaded with household close dryers. He said he liked them for their "warm dry tone"

otherwise when i was a kid and saw exit stage left it changed my view of bass playing forever

The dryer props were to funny. I loved how they had steam coming out of the top of them.

Two weeks from yesterday here in Tulsa, I'll be watching Rush. Woo hoo!

EDIT: Here's Geddy's current backline posted by qball26 back in July:

It's great to see that the boys are still out there getting it done. I've only seen Rush once. That was the "Presto" tour. I enjoyed it a lot.

I saw them July 1st here in KC. That was my 10th Rush concert. They sounded better this tour than they have sounded in several years! Not to say the others were not great but this Time Machine tour is really tight!

Seen them twice in a week when in Toronto in July. 3rd time for me but about the 40th for my wife who has seen every show that came into our area since Moving Pictures came out. Way back in the day, Neil was to addition for my guitarists band but did not show, rest is history of where he auditioned that week instead. Toronto shows were great since they give a bit more for the home town it seems. Second show had sound issues but they were still dead on. Forgot some words but that is all part of the show. She did admit though, that even Rush are her boys, we seen McCartney a few weeks later (9th row) and it was the best she had seen, me also. 3 hours of dead on.

can't wait to see them-have tickets for Oct 1st in Tampa. I saw them in West Palm in 2007, and they rocked it out hard- 3 1/2 hours without a supporting act-wow!

I just saw them in Columbus a few weeks ago. Each of them are at the top of their game, and though Ged struggled vocally a few times you really can't fault him for not being able to hit high notes with the power he had when he was young.

. . and the sausage links constantly pouring out of the right side of the bass "rig" . . . priceless . . .

FWIW he uses two Sansamp RPM's into two Avalon U5's, as well as an Orange tube bass head into a Palmer Speaker Simulator, then all three signals are blended at the board. No speakers on stage, still just in-ears.

I caught them on Aug 8th in Mountain View, my first time ever seeing them though I've been a fan since the early 80's. I'd been reluctant to see them from the late 80's onward because I wasn't that keen on their newer material, so this was definitely the tour to catch. Those guys threw it down! I know people who have been seeing them live forever and said this was the best show they'd seen them play in 30 years.

I saw them at PNC Arts Center in NJ a couple of weeks ago. The show was magnificent. the boys are really on top of their game this tour. It must be the influence of the "GeFilter"!

One of the things I admire in a person is when they don't conform to what everyone else does, and on top of that, have fun with the non-conformance, as if to say to all those so-called "rockers" out there:

"Not only do I not have a yawn-envoking wall of amps behind me (whether real or fake), but what I do have is completely and utterly ridiculous, and I'm having too much fun with it!"

Washing machines, dryers, chicken rotisseries.......anything but a boring "all-too-common" wall of amps that other pros have convinced themselves they need in order to have "the look."

Too cool!

I was at the Boston show. Any opinions on the sound? Where were you seated and did you get any low end on the bass? I just posted this in another thread:

"The bass was completely without low end and inaudible for the entire show. the only time we heard the bass was when he was playing with no guitar, and even then the tone was all sizzly high end.

I was sitting just behind the sound board slightly off to the right so that couldn't have been it. don't know if it weas a problem just at this show, but alas this is the worst sounding Rush show I've experienced in almost 20 years of seeing them"

My 2 companions at the show echoed my sentiments. By the 3rd song we were looking at each other like, 'something is terribly wrong here'. Were we all crazy?

I did notice that the bass was not really present. But I can honestly say that I did hear it. But it was not the rumble I like to hear when I play. Lots of high end chorus in his lines and solos.

I was sitting on the left hand side of the stage in the club section seating about halfway up. I was on Alex's side. I could hear well and the mix sounded incredible.

I was not disappointed at all. I too had a friend that was there. Basswave who is here on the forums. He also commented on the fact that the bass was missing a lot of mid range. I told he was to critical! LOL.

All in all a great show. And I am not a die hard RUSH fan but I like a lot of thier hits. I have to give them credit. I hope I can dance around and play like that when I am in my mid 50's to 60's.

Hmm so it may not have been just me. Can you ask Basswave to chime in here? I'd be curious to hear his assessment in some detail..

Saw them in Bristow VA last night, great show. I was on Alex's side and the bass was audible, the synth was really quiet, especially for Marathon (what a shot in the dark!)

Pre encore Alex threw a shirt towards my section and it bounced off my hand, my friend picked it up (and he doesn't even like Rush that much), it had Alex in a fat suit and on the back read, "The last time someone grabbed my sausage i had to get remarried"
