Scott Pilgrim V. The World Playing a Ric?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone notice this? The guy is hunched over, and appears to be shredding on the Ric like a guitar with a pic... They did know this was a bass right? Maybe they picked it just because it looked cool? In any event, I thought it looked strange...

I play my bass like this, on occasion. It's a cool way to play bass, second only to the Power Stance.

Nope. The character is, in fact, a bass player.

It should be mentioned that there are some bassists, in fact, who use a pick.

Fact.

I hate Michael Cera so much, why did they have to give him a Rickenbacker?

Because he's not good enough for an Alembic?

In the comic this movie's based on, Scott Pilgrim plays in a band, and it's pretty clear that he's drawn playing a ric.

Me thinks somebody has never seen Chris Squire go bonkers live...with a pick and a ric.

Now sits back and waits for the "The Early Naughty's Scott Pilgrim switched to Fender Jazz Myth" thread to happen.

Lets see, his breakout days were in Arrested Development, which started in 2003. M. Cera was born in 1988. So he was roughly 15 when he 'broke out'. 7 years later he's got to be about 22ish now. I know I aged a lot between 15 and 22.

I'm not keen on the Ric thing, when he plays an Alembic is when I get mad.

I guarantee there will be a spike in Ric sales.

He was also a bass player in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, and played guitar in Juno.

For some reason Hollywood seems to have no idea about the music world. When I was younger I would always get upset cause either the actor was so bad a faking playing an instrument, or the bands were so bad, or they could have used a real band for a better effect. This comes as no surprise that they would show him shredding on a bass. Hollywood knows we are all stupid, and thanks to Justin Bieber its being confirmed.

How is any of this justified? M. Cera actually knows how to play. In this particular movies, the bands songs were written by Beck. Yes, Beck. I watched a movie called Tideland the other day, Jeff Bridges plays the singer/guitarist in a rock band. Watching, you can clearly see that Jeff is actually playing. Hollywood has no idea about the music world? Hollywood created the music world.

Yeah...couldn't they have him playing a Dean or Mexican Squire?

Yeah, but also, you know how many mistakes you can pick out watching people play?

Like the dude in "I love you man" and they are always screwing it up on the Free Credit Report commercials and probably a ton more if I cared to think right now. Just saying, hollywood doesn't really seem to care if the playing looks real or not.

Maybe the people that created the ad thought he would look lame standing perfectly still and wearing a Hawaiian shirt and sandals?
