Scratch proofing

Can felt be used to prevent scratching of the paint? My example, i have a shirt of maille and it puts a huge amount of little tiny scratches on the back of my bass. (I have only played once with it on, and that was for about 2 min.)

Yes, but I worry you'll get sticky stuff on the finish from tape, (or look like a dork if you put the felt on your body). But that's common practice for BP's with pointy belt buckles and such.
