I'm very excited. I'm not exactly a huge Queensryche fan, but I must say that for years now, Operation: Mindcrime has been one of my favourite albums of all time.
I hope they've still got it. I'm ditching school to go downtown and see the concert (the only way to do it). I'll post a little review in a couple days.
Any fans here? Anyone going to see them in Toronto, or has anyone seen them on this year's tour?

It was Halford (when Rob Halford did his own band), then Queensryche, then Maiden. My wife was torqued because she wanted them to play a longer set than they did. I had to remind her that they were only opening. But they came back through KC as the headliner not too long after that, so it worked out. |

I had pretty much no experience with Queensryche. I just used to joke about them as another stereotypical 80s metal band. I like them alot now though.
The show was pretty good. The bassist is playing Sadowskys and Spectors and his tone is huge. The guitarists are both amazing. Lots of harmonized leads and stuff. Geoff Tate still has a strong voice too. And if you're lucky, Dio will come out and perform as Dr. X. That only happens in select cities though.

Geoff Tate sounds better than he's done for years, and Mike Stone is really coming into his own on guitar now (although we're not quite past the "where's Chris DeGarmo" thing with the fans yet). And, of course, Eddie Jackson is still a tone monster... it's good to see him using his Spectors again. |

| | | | Wow.
So I lined up, and was able to get in the front row, right against the railing. I was in front of Michael Wilton (IMO the better of the two guitarists), as well as the bassist and drummer. At any given time I was about five or six feet from them. Eddie played Mike Lulls and a Spector (five strings with Hipshots), through a Hughes & Kettner amp and a CryBaby 105Q. Both guitarists played ESPs, and Wilton played a Line 6 Variax acoustic, but I didn't see the amps.
The set was awesome... O:MC, intermission, O:MCII, and then Walking In Shadows and Jet City Woman for the encore. Geoff Tate still has the pipes, though he's getting pretty fat.
Anyway, I can't really say anything except that they played absolutely perfectly, and the way the story was acted out was well done. It was like watching a musical, with the pit band on the stage. My only complaint is that the bass sound was muddy and indistinct, which I didn't expect, especially seeing as all of Eddie's basses had EMG jazz and soapbar pickups. But besides that, it was just a great concert, and the guitars sounded especially awesome.
And I'm ultra-jealous of my friend, who caught the pick that Eddie used to play the intro to Jet City Woman.
