Seeing the Wall Tonight

Sign in to disble this ad
Turns out a buddy has an extra ticket so I'm going to see Rogers Waters and the Wall tonight.

I'm big classic rock fan but never a big Pink Floyd fan - familiar with some of their stuff but it always seemed too spacey to me and most songs about or by or for someone with mental illness.

I never heard the album all the way through - but I know most of the songs. Really didn't care for the Wall movie - I guess its a movie - the thing with Bob Gelfdorf, seemed kind of whiney to me.

What should I expect for tonight? Will I be able to enjoy this without herbage?

Big fan. Would love to go, but not for $200.

that's why I want the full report. Non-nosebleed tickets are way too much $$, IMO. I have to live vicariously.

OK, my report.

First off my tickets were priced at $78.50 - pretty good seats one of the corner gate Box deals at the Nassau Colleseum. Pricey yes, but not outrageous IMO.

The show was a multi-media extravaganza. A large cast, exellent production, pyrotecnics, a crashing airplane, a fireball huge, 50+ feet tall, teacher, mother and other, should I call them puppets. and a big flying pig. They wall they build - I bet you guys knew they were going to build a wall - was used to good effect as the back drop to the video projections.

A large but probably not completely sold out crowd was totally into the show. The sound was unbelievable. I've never heard such good sound in a hockey arena.

The music was excellent, Roger only played bass for part of the 1st set. When he played he played what looked like a black Fender P bass. He didn't play bass at all after the intermission. There was someone else playing a Fender Tele type 4 string.

As I mentioned the music was excellent, some good vocalist doing the Gilmore parts and 2 (at least 2 guitarists) one being G E Smith. ( his mug is unmistakable even from 250 feet away ) But the music is really overshadowed by the visual elements of the show. The band spends almost all of the show in the dark, and even playing behind the wall for a good portion of the show.

The show started a little after 8. It took them 1 hour to build the wall, a 25 or 30 minute intermission followed by a 50 minute 2nd set which climaxes with the wall coming down - again I'm sure you guys knew that.

Ok - for me it was an enjoyable show. I got to hear some of the all time great classic rock songs played by a very good band through an outstanding sound system with an incredible visual backdrop with 18,000 of my closest freinds. but I
am not fluent with story so I had no emotional attachment as most of the audience did.

I have to admit I was a little surpised that the show ended when the wall came down. I was expecting more. I was making a sort of parallel - there is probably no parallel but I was making one in my mind as I watched the show - to Tommy. Tommy doesn't end after the mirror breaks.
