Segovia, etc. - Is it just me?

So many bass players I find are, *hem*, unsatisfied, to say the least, with "******ists" as a whole, but having recently discovered the works of Andres Segovia, he has totally redefined the term "guitar" in a very similar fashion to how Manring and Schmidt have redefined bass, at least for me.

Without sinking to the level of "They suck, he's so much better" and vice versa, can we get some appreciation for classical guitarists here, anyone?

I'm more of a Bream guy, but I love just about any classical guitar.

Another vote for Julian Bream. I have a recording of him performing Asturias-Leyenda and it sounds just amazing. His fast "tremelo" technique makes it sound as if he's got at least 10 fingers on each hand. As well, his version of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez is another very powerful piece for him.

Classical and Flamenco guitar is great. I've been playing bass with more of that kind of technique than traditional bass technique for years. I'm only now seriously employing a "closed" [Simandl] type left hand.

I started out playing classical guitar when I was ten.

Everything I ever learned about playing bass, projecting a note clearly and anything that really matters came from that first 6 years of classical training.

It doesn't matter how beautiful the words are if you mumble and can't be heard.

Yeah, I love classical guitar.

Not really 'classical' per se, but I just love Paco De Lucia's playing. I had the honor of seeing his 'Live Across America' tour many years ago (with the amazing Carles Benavent on bass), and it was something.

Also in the 'classical inspired' area, I love some of John McLlaughlin's work, like the Mediterranean Concerto.

And finally, again not classical, but 'classically inspired', I love the acoustic work of Joe Pass on the 'Virtuoso' discs.

another +1 for classical guitar work. I started my musical life on classical guitar and a lot of the things i used in that music helped a lot when i started learning bass. very cool stuff
