Selling an instrument you love...

Sign in to disble this ad
So, how do you guys do it? Not physically, I mean I know you have to place an ad but when it's an instrument that you love but need to sell, either for financial reasons or because you don't have room for it, how do you convince yourself to go through with it?

It helps to justify selling a bass if you haven't played it for a while... you can love an instrument but not use it, in which case it's just not cost effective.

I already know that! I haven't bought any for a long time (well over a year) but need to sell one for financial reasons. Just don't seem to be able to bring myself to do it, so just looking for some advice.

It's just wood, hardware and strings. You can always replace it later. Even custom made pieces can be made again, and sometimes even better.
If you need to do it, just do it, unless you believe in the magic of mojo or are a believer that they are alive or something. It's a tool and sometimes a piece of art, that's it.

I guess I should say IMHO of course.

Good luck,
Dirk

Whenever I decide something has to go (financial reasons or to clear space, so to speak), here's the reasoning I use:

Which bass in my arsenal would cause me the LEAST pain to sell off. That's the one I'll put up for sale. But even that process is problematic after awhile because you get to a point where you're happy with all of them. But if you're honest with yourself, you can always choose one that you like a little bit less than the others...

Oh yeah, and don't beat yourself up after the fact. As long as you've given it some thought before you sell it, and had a good reason for selling, don't dwell on it. You did what you felt you had to do.

First thing I thought about reading the OP was raw emotions associated with divorce.
Jeff is right, which bass would net you the $, and be the least painful to let go...

I go in order of what I can replace. Unfortunately the Lull is a prototype and he doesn't build like that anymore, the W is very hard to find, and the Spector had an electronics upgrade that my dad did all the work on. So right now the ATK would be only thing to go and it aint getting me much.
