Set list suggestions for a blast of a party gig

Sign in to disble this ad
I’ve got several friends having a big combined party in July and they’ve asked me to put a band on. My regular set-up can’t do it as several are away at the time, but I’ve managed to get together a five piece with me, drums, guitar, keys and a girl singer. So, we’ll get together a set for the party – but who knows? Maybe we might get to do a few more gigs if it works well.

Anyway, here are some ideas I’ve got for the set. Please take a look and when you get the idea of the sort of stuff we’re looking to do, chime in with some suggestions to add in. Be creative, and don’t worry TOO much about the line-up as the guys I’m working with are all top notch and will have zero problems learning and playing pretty much anything I throw in there.

So far:
Prince – Let’s Go Crazy
Supergrass – Alright
Alien Ant Farm – Smooth Criminal
Undertones – Teenage Kicks
Charlatans – The Only One I Know
Pulp – Disco 2000
David Bowie – Jean Genie

I have a few more, but that’s enough to give you the flavour. Let’s hear ‘em!

I like the Heart suggestion, and maybe the Nena.

The singer's a good one, so she's fine with almost any style (as are the rest of the guys, instrumentally).

We can also do some vocals with the rest of the line up.

evanessence (spelling?)
flyleaf

those are both a little more progressive.

but for some sing-a-long tunes, id stick with my previous choices.
my singer, whom which i have to still chat with, is a country singer.
im trying to get her comfortable singing light rock.
she has the potential, her voice is amazing, its just out of her comfort zone.

good luck with the set.
if you sing nena, you should do it in the german version. lol.

So Hot by Kid Rock goes over big. (Maybe not with a girl singer)

Word Up by Cameo kills as well

Bring me to life by Evanescence

You and your hand by Pink

It really doesn't have to be stuff just with female vocals, by the way. I look on a singer as a musician in the band, the same as the rest of the guys. Most of the quality girl singers I've worked with have pretty much no problem adapting to sing stuff where the original was a male singer.

Lyrics don't matter, nobody listens to them anyway.

Anyway, I just checked out the lyrics - what's the problem? Girls can get raunchy too, ya know.

Gentlemen:

Good call on Word Up!

If your female vocalist can wail,I'd suggest "Got To Be Real" by Cheryl Lynn
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYS-mdy7PxQ

"Good Times/Rapper's Delight" by Chic/Sugarhill Gang is always a party pleaser.

Good Times - we play this with my regular band, and I'm trying to aim for different stuff with this line-up. Never thought of doing the rapper version though!

Halestorm - will do.

Just thinking about throwing this old favourite in:
