I am wondering if anyone listens to her? I have for 10 years now and am suprised how she's evolved over each album. I was wondering what some of you guys thought and maybe a song you like by her or two?
My favorite song is De Tejo Madrid. Admitably I don't understand espanol bueno. But, her voice and the instruments always make me stop and listen too it whenever I even think about it.

I think Shakira is the sexiest woman alive and has an absolutely amazing voice. My personal favorite is Ojos Asi , with Gypsy ( both versions, it doesn't matter really. ) a close second. |

Can you understand Ojos Asi or just the english Eyes like yours version?
Shakira isn't just a looker. She's got a charity, a member of Unicef, multilingal. She's the only girl I'd be afraid to talk to. Chances are she'll just correct my english.

I can hear a thousand girls that sound like every other pop singer, and just get bored to tears unless the song is that good. Singers like Shakira, Macy Gray. Eryka Badu .. that is where I like to live
To answer the question, no I can't understand it, but I MUCH prefer the non English version. Sometimes, when a song is that good, understanding word for word might take away some of my personal experience and interpretation. It's almost more personal, thus cherished more , for that.
I'm weird though so |

She might even be my favorite non-country singer.

I believe Shakira can classify for a good country singer she dueted with Rascal Flatts last year if the past of Shakira tells us anything she usually duets with a someone from another genre then the next album she implores that genre into her music. Melissa Etheridge duet Shakira put more rock in her music, Wyclef John duet mostly the whole She Wolf album is strictly dance music.
Maybe country radio might play Shakira in a few years you never know with her that's why she's interesting.

Although pretty, her looks had nothing to do with my initial interest or first CD purchase. One man's viewpoint.

Not just for Hips Don't Lie, there's a lot of different tracks that I thought were pretty good and she plays with a few different styles. I think her voice is interesting and gives a little extra to the music compared with other pop females who generally all sound the same.
As far as looks - honestly, in the entertainment world, skinny wiggly girls are a dime a dozen. Sure she's good looking, but not in a way that particularly stands out.

And I must say: I've always hated her voice with all my forces. And, to make things worse, she made very good music in the past (which should have been sung by anyone but her) but nowadays her music has went downhill. "Laundry Service" was the last good album she released. "Pies Descalzos" is perhaps the best thing she has ever created and recorded. "Suerte" ("Whenever, Wherever") is another good song which intro reminds me of Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Again, those songs should have been recorded by anyone else. YMMV, of course. |
