Shame and respectability

I realized have no sense of shame and am not interested in respectability when it comes to musical taste. Actually, I find people who are interested in being respectable to be mildly irritating.

Contrast the members two bands I'm playing in. I suggest to both that we do some early Shakira songs. In band A, the guitarists complain that the songs are too sweet and the singer says that Shakira's got a really good voice and she doesn't want to be compared to her. In band B, there are no guitarists and the vocalist is enthusiastic and says she used to listen to Shakira when she was younger and still remembers the lyrics to all the songs.

The funniest part is that band A is a rock/pop cover band, and band B is black metal. Go figure. I just quit band A for unrelated reasons, but this probably didn't help that they were worried about that people might think less of them if they play a particular song, and I'm an attention whore who, to be honest, loves it when others think I'm a terrible person.
