Best of luck at the gig! You'll rock the house.
BTW - I really like the cartoon image at the top of your web page.
Rock on!

We need video of the gig! Sound clips!
Actually, I've got to say I'm envious of your guitarist, and not just for the obvious reasons. I was going to join up with a group a couple years ago but then they decided to stay an all-girl group, so I didn't even get to audition. Good luck with the gig!

Rock on! | This post made me smile. Thank you!!
hrodbert696,
No clips yet, but hopefully we'll get some soon. Thanks for wishing us luck. It's 3 weeks out, and my stomach's already in knots, LOL.

Johnius,
Thanks re: the Marcus Miller - I really love it! I bought it impulsively, best thing I ever did.
I'll definitely drop you a note if we play in Chicago. I actually have relatives there, so I do make it to Chicago a couple of times a year. Probably be awhile before Sonic Cherry is gigging there, but if you have any upcoming gigs, drop me a PM and I'll try to make it to see you play sometime. Or you can get me a website and I can check it next time we head your direction. :-)

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jan 2001 Location: northeast Ohio | | I'm from Akron. My old band played Columbus a few times- Ravari Room, HiFi Bar, somewhere else I can't remember. I don't even know if those places are still there, that was about 7-8 years ago. When we played Ravari Room we got free pizza from the place next door. I wish I could afford the gas to drive down and see you guys but i am just a poor (adult) college student
Just get in some extra practices and have fun. As nervous as you might be you'll have a good time. If you would like a show in Akron or Kent there's a couple places I might be able to help you with. PM me if you're interested.

But I do second your "on topic" comment.
EDIT: OK, so It was a bit of "earthy" humor. My impression of the OP and the band, based on the website, is that they wouldn't take offense at it; it looks to me like they know they have sex appeal and don't mind. If she and her bandmates were offended, I do apologize. I'm looking forward to sound or video so I have more to comment on than their looks (which are fantastic).

I suppose some are a mix of the two. The world is totally different for females, my ex gf spent half her time telling guys to screw off because they were always staring at her, hitting on her, etc. I would have to think it gets annoying at some point.

PM me if you're interested. | Hey, I definitely understand being a broke college student - been there, done that. :-) Thanks for the offer re: help setting up a gig in Akron. I'll make a note of it and if if/when we get to the point where we are ready to branch out to more places, I'll drop you a PM. So sweet of you to offer your help! And thanks for the encouragement and advice, also. :-)
hrodbert696,
I wasn't offended by the remark you made. It was (I assume) a joke, and it made me laugh. I don't mind talk about sexuality as long as the comments aren't mean or sexually aggressive, and I didn't find the comment you made to be either.
On the other hand, I have to admit that reading Waterpilot's and runmikeyrun's responses to yours made me smile too, because they are clearly sensitive enough to women to recognize it *could* have been offensive. For women sexuality is a bit tricky - we want to be thought of as attractive and we certainly love to feel sexy, but we don't want that to be ALL that matters, because obviously there is a lot more to us as people than that.
So imo, this situation is no harm, no foul. I didn't find your comments offensive, but I did appreciate the guys who were
concerned it might be.
And can I just say, all the encouragement and kind words in all the responses have been really awesome. I can't thank you all enough for that. It might seem silly, but it really does make all the anxiety about this first gig a little more bearable.
I just hope our audience will be as incredible and supportive as the people on talkbass!

Now that you bring it up, i'm sorta nervous for our gig next week. We lost our singer a month ago and i've resumed vocal duties. Not that i'm nervous about singing in front of people because i sang and played for a long time before this band, but I have ADHD and remembering lyrics takes a lot of repetition for me. I only wrote the lyrics for 6 songs a month ago and only have a few practices on them. We had planned shows for October which would have been fine, but we took this one next week to help a band out. I know i'm going to forget some of the words, but at least when you're screaming you can fake it pretty good haha.
I PM'd you with info on a couple of clubs.

I'm impressed that you can sing and play at the same time - I can't even seem to manage back-up vocals while I'm playing! I think as long as you keep singing, no one will know the difference if you're singing something random here or there, LOL.
Thanks for the PM, that way I can save the info.
And good luck next week - let us know how it goes!

Singing and playing takes time and practice. For me, I learn the music and play it with the band until it becomes automatic. Then I can concentrate on singing without thinking about what i'm playing. I also tend to simplify parts when I have to sing so my brain doesn't have to work too hard lol. It's funny, I played in two bands where I only did backup and I thought it was almost harder, because I had to think about where and when I was coming in. Plus I didn't sing the backup parts at practice so I would have to try to remember the lyrics before my parts came.
np on the info, hope it works out for you. Make sure you get them to at least guarantee you $50 or something for gas.
I'll report back on the gig...

Good luck! | Thanks, I'll pass that along re: the website. The guy who did it spent tons of hours on it (and did the animation also) - I know he'll appreciate that folks have noticed it! And thanks for wishing us luck!!! :-)
runmikeyrun - You'll do great, no doubt.
Can't wait to hear how it goes. :-)
