| | | | Maybe you're thinking of woodshedding? My understanding is woodshedding is where the player is one or more of the following:
- no longer in a band
- socially unacceptable to larger society for some reason
- women do not respond to him (anymore)
and he practices and plays at home alone all the time. That's me (and I'm all of the above).
Shredding is where you play as many notes in as short a time as possible as much as possible.

| | | | I would normally say this belongs in the technique section, I am pretty sure it does not belong in "Basses".
But since I have no idea what you're talking about, I can't say for sure.
Post a link.. it's obviously a verb of some sort, but you may be confused. When I googled "bass guitar shedding" I zero results, along with a...
"Did you mean: Bass guitar shredding?"
EDIT: I saw your link. It's either a typo or they mean "woodshedding", IMO.

Having tried this myself I can vouch for two things: (1) It is an effective way to improve your chops and (2) It is quite painful after a short while.

Woodshedding is, as others have hinted, derived from the practice of "taking one out to the woodshed" to correct various social transgressions. In the context of music, it means spending a period of time alone, concentrating on intense practice for the ultimate goal of becoming a better technician.

Because he used to practice upwards of 13-14 hours a DAY, everyone around got mad at him, so he used to practice out back in his wood shed.
hence the term "wood shedding" or "shedding" meaning to just sit down, and practice vigorously.
it's an actual term, and i'm moving this to Misc. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
