Shipping a bass from Canada to the UK - Advice?

Hi folks

I'm in the UK, and I'm thinking of buying a bass from Canada. Does anyone out there have experience on the different shipping options available?

I've bought from the US a few times before, and I prefer using USPS as they cost a lot less than UPS, etc. Are Canada Post a similar price (around US$150?), or are they comparable to the private couriers?

Also, are there any size restrictions I should be aware of?

I'll get a quote from the Canada Post site, but I'd like to hear any first-hand experiences.
