Shipping a bass overseas...

I have a Tacoma CB-10 ThunderChief that I am selling. The guy who wants to buy it is in the Navy in the Phillipines. Upon receiving payment I will send it to him. My question to you gents is this... are there any precautions other than packing it well and getting insurance that I should do with this? Will the temperature be a factor perhaps in messing with the wood? If so what can I do to prevent it? Should I loosen the strings prior to shipping?

There are quite a few different scams to watch out for. Make sure you get payment up front, not paypal, not an international money order (there's been threads about ppl getting ripped off with fake cheques and money orders that clear when deposited and then a month later they get shafted).

Apart from that, ask the shipping company how much packing is enough, because even if you insure it, the company might deny your claim if there's not enough packing maaterial.

Dont think this is the right place to post this though!

So where would the right place be? Miscellaneous? Hardware? Off Topic? I figured here would be as good a place as any... Thanks for the heads up.. I always thought PP was supposed to be better... that's good to know.

If the guy is in the Navy, make sure it ships to a APO/FPO address, other than that, I'd double box it, lots of bubble wrap, perhaps over paper so it doesn't stick to the finish. I wouldn't loosen the strings too much, maybe just detune it.
