Shipping a Bass via UPS

Has anyone shipped a bass via UPS lately? I am getting ready to sell a G&L L2500 and am wondering how much the shipping will be. I shipped a MesaBoogie amp via UPS recently and it cost about $85 so I am guessing it might be around $60 to ship a bass?

It depends on where it's going, usually. Anywhere between $70-80 w/insurance, probably. Incidentally, I think Fedex ground is usually the cheapest for heavy or awkward stuff. And fast too. I shipped a guitar via Fedex Ground from Boston to Alaska and it was there in five days. (The return part of that trade went via UPS and it took over nine days.) Just my $0.02.

60 bucks is a pretty good guess. The cost will vary based on exact destination and insurance. UPS has a cost estimation tool here:

I just shipped one and it was about $75 from MA to CA.

I'm actually going to Fedex to ship a bass from PA to CA today, so I'll let you know the details after I do it

Thanks for the infos! It seems the insurance is what really raises the cost with UPS. I have received several guitars/basses but have not shipped out many. Oh, and does anyone know what Paypal's fee is these days when receiving a payment, 3%?
