I will be placing an order for a Jaydee bass http://www.jaydeecustomguitars.co.uk/index.html which are made in the UK. It will cost around $105 to ship and $2200 to build the bass. How much should I exept to pay from US customs?

Duty into the US on bass guitars is 5% of the value, so at $ 2200.00 USD, duty would be 110.00. Shipping charges should be non-dutiable, but you might end up paying someone a service charge for customs clearance, depending on your arrangements. Were you going to try to clear it through customs yourself?

I guess it depends how they're sending it to you. If they're shipping UPS/FedEX/DHL, those companies usually clear things through customs for you, but for an additional fee. If it comes by regular mail, it's kind of a crapshoot. Customs might let it go through and just send an invoice for the duty, or they might request that you find a customs broker to clear it.

I'm just going by my experience as a customs broker; I've never actually bought anything like a $ 2000 bass from overseas myself.
