Shipping Help

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm trying to sell a bass case. It's a TKL Zero Gravity case; which is very light. I called the UPS store to get a quote. They want $33 to pack it and $32 to ship it.

If I go to UPS's web site and enter the information I get a quote for ~$12 to ship it.

$33 seems expensive for a box, but I don't know where else to get a box.

Any advice for shipping cheaper?

If all you need is a single box, try all the local guitar stores and ask if they have a spare guitar or large keyboard box they can give you (they just recycle them otherwise). You can order the right-sized boxes from Uline, but you have to buy an order of 5 or 6 at a time (they're around $5 a box when you work out the math). USPS is always cheaper, and I'd have no issue shipping an empty case through them, although some branches will try to give you the run-around when shipping large packages.

Find a box... pad around your case... stuff it in the box... Tape it up...

Take it to UPS, FedEx or USPS and ship it cheap.

on the cheap

have one of your friends who is an art handler or artist pack it, i pack stuff all the time it's easy, whether it's musical instruments or fine art, all you need is some corrugated cardboard/sheetfoam or bubble/screwdriver/yardstick/ shipping tape to make a custom box

if i lived near you i'd do it for a six pack and a burrito and i'd teach you how

BTW, for packages over 4-5 lbs. Fedex is the way to ship. You'd be surprised at their pricing. Don't know what their insurance policy on guitars is, but for something like your case it's perfect. Trick is, you have to take it to a joint owned by Fedex: either a Fedex shipping center or a Fedex/Kinko's. A subcontractor or a little spot in some other store that is ostensibly a 'Fedex location' will charge you more.
