Shipping internationally...shocking quote!

Sign in to disble this ad
Whats up guys,

I'm currently trying to get a shipping rate for my bass to a fellow talkbass member, so I called the local UPS store. They gave me a quote that made me laugh. $540 to Tallinn, Estonia!

I was thin**** of shipping it without the case because the case is basically dead weight. Then I have to worry about it being secure enough for an overseas flight and i'm not sure how their shipping practices are in Estonia.

Have any of you guys shipped your instruments to Europe before? How much did it cost? Any tips?

Thanks.

-Joash

i noticed that too in the last few posts ive read. the only thing i can think of is that it is assuming that the letters before "k i n g" is f u c.

anyone got a better answer?

It's being worked on.

To the OP: If it's a bolt on: remove the neck and ship it in two pieces, no case. Takes a significant cost off for size and weight.

Don't ever ship international through any commercial carriers!!!

My friend shipped an SG to Lithuania, and UPS wanted 600, Fedex wanted 800, and the US Postal Service wanted 65. Needless to say, we went with USPS. I just shipped a bass to Spain and it cost little more than 100 or so.

i think i learned that to go international, i should definitely stick with usps.

i called them today, and they said 48'' is too long.

i'm not sure what i can do at this point. the bass is neck through so i can't unbolt the neck.

trevorus, did you come across the problem of having the box too long? how did you pack the bass?

thanks for your help guys

You can go with a different service, maybe... Global Express has different size restriction. It had a size restriction of 108 overall. That is height plus girth. My box BARELY was small enough. This bass that I sent was neck through, too. Problem is, some countries just some incoming restrictions too that you will have to investigate...

This is partially why a lot of people do not like international shipping...
