In the bass world, Victor Wooten is much shorter that you'd think he'd be. There's probably gonna be several posts backing me up on that, since he's probably the most accessible and approachable celebrity bassist out there right now. Anthony Jackson is also pretty short, which strikes me as a surprise because he plays, talks, and sounds like he's 10 feet tall. I'm 5'11" and I though Will Lee would tower over me since he looks so tall on TV. I'm a hair taller than he is.

Y'all know Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Elaine on "Seinfeld". She's really quite short in real life, but they always used tricks of the TV trade to make her look taller than her 5'3" frame. Prince is supposed to be even shorter than than that, but I've never met him.

Definitely Vic. I had looked up to him, and seeing the 'tones live for a few years before I met him wandering at Merlefest. I guess I had imagined his physical stature to be in line with his bass playing and was expecting him to be like 8'6". Instead he was ... pretty short.

I had quite the contemplative "Huh." moment.

At a Dixie Dregs show here in (Steve Morse's hometown) Augusta, GA, I just had to accost Dave LaRue and gush about his playing and introduce myself as a fellow low-ender. Really nice guy, from what I gathered from that brief encounter. Really short guy, from what I gathered from that brief encounter. I'm about 5'10 1/2", and the top of his head was at about the bridge of my nose.
On the other hand, when I met Mike Mesaros from the Smithereens, it was almost the other way around.

My brother is about 5'10, and I'm about 5'8 (only 14, got growin left to do...). At one point in his LA ventures he met Ben Stiller. That day when he called me up and told me about it, he said Ben was a good deal shorter than him, as well as me. Probably 5'6-5'7 at the most

Victor is short but thick and his hands are like vice grips.
Tom Cruise was even shorter than I thought he would be.
Jason Williams, guard who now plays for Miami Heat, was way shorter than I thought.

Madonna, though I've never actually met her. I had always imagined she was really tall, but she's 5'4".

Rob Flynn - I'm 6'0 nothing right now, and I was 13 when I met him which was a couple of years ago and I was still taller! He must be like 5'8 or something and the same with the singer of Ackercocke! You'd expect them both to be big towering guys but they're not!

I shook hands with Clint Eastwood once. In all those westerns he looks so tall in the saddle... nope! He's like 5'9".
Then of course there's Dolly Parton... but we already knew that!

Anthony Kiedis (sp?) of RHCP bummed a pen off of me in a bar back in '93. I couldn't believe what a shrimp he was.

On the other hand, Harrison Ford was taller than I thought he'd be. I always imagined him being 5' 8" or something.

On the other end of the spectrum, I met Toby Keith... He's a B-I-G dude, and to make it worse, he had on a cowboy hat and boots. I'm 6'1 and had to look way up at him.
