Should I go see Gov't Mule ?

Sign in to disble this ad
They are opening up for Bob Weir & Ratdog and I am anxious to check them (mule) out (Andy Hess is just sick !) .

Anyways ,they are playing at the Ironstone Amphitheatre, (about 2 hrs away) so I'm wondering , for those of you that have seen them live is it worth the trek up there ? How were they live ? Would you go see them again ? How many hippies should I expect ?

Thanks

Rich

I say yes - I went last year here in Seattle and spent the night with my elbows on the edge of the stage in front of the bass rig. Sound that close wasn't perfect, but awesome nonetheless. Lots of hippies and a couple hot chicks hanging out up front. Our entire band went and we ended up hanging out with Warren and gang for 15 minutes afterward as they were waiting to board the bus. Good times...

Yes. The never play the same set twice, typically jam very tastefully, have excellent taste in their choice of covers and are all top notch players. I will be seeing them at two of the three shows that they are playing in my are in July. Check out muletracks.com and buy a concert recording or two to get a feel for the live show.

For some reason I've never gotten into Mule, and I've seen them about 6 times.

But I'd go just for Ratdog, I recently saw them both at mountain jam and was very impressed with Bob Weir.

only if you like the most amazing shows you can imagine, true story from last time i saw them, they get up on stage and played for two and a half hours...then they get off stage, everyone is yelling encore, and ten minutes go by, I have a freind to meet to I say I'll give them 20 more minutes, they come on at 25 and play another two hours, god am I glad I stayed....as if that wasn't enough they came on after and did an encore,

Amazing band

You should absolutely go and see Gov't Mule and RatDog. They are doing a few dates out West the early part of this summer. Here's their tour schedule. I think they booked fantastic venues overall and that the tour will be off the hook.

Fri 6.20 Cuthbert Amphitheatre Eugene, OR

Sat 6.21 Wamu Theatre Seattle, WA

Mon 6.23 Botanical Gardens Boise, ID

Tue 6.24 The Depot Salt Lake City, UT

Fri 6.27 Ironstone Amphitheatre Murphys, CA

Sun 6.29 Greek Theatre Los Angeles, CA

Tue 7.01 Humphreys By The Bay San Diego, CA

Wed 7.02 Humphreys By The Bay San Diego, CA

Thu 7.03 The Joint Las Vegas, NV

Wed 7.09 Mountain Winery Saratoga, CA

Thu 7.10 Mountain Winery Saratoga, CA

Plus three Mule only shows:

Sun 6.22 Knitting Factory Concert Hse Spokane, WA

Sat 6.28 Ventura Theatre Ventura, CA

Fri 7.4 High Sierra Festival Quincy, CA

You can find their web site through google. I don't want to post it in case that is against the forums rules. I've been a supporter of this band for about 7 years now and think they are a great live band. Their cds do not do them as much justice as their live performances. Though their cds are great too.

Anyway, check them out and let me know what you think.

A dj friend of mine hooked me up with a promotional ep of theirs when they first formed in 94 or 95. and I though they sounded great. Then I saw them live a couple of months later and they killed! They covered Eminence Front and their live versions of Mr. Big and Just Got Paid are absolutely unbelievable.

Definitely go. They are a GREAT live band. As far as how many hippies to expect? I'd say. ALOT. It's entertaining to me to watch unwashed stoners do the acid dance though, so no problem there. One good thing you can say about hippies, they aren't there to start any trouble....just to enjoy themselves.
