Should we call it a Pre-Party or a Tribute?

We've booked a great punk night in south Florida only a week before NOFX comes down to play with The Bouncing Souls. The last show we played with the same bands was riddled with love for NOFX, including a well received cover, and a between band energetic singalong when the MC played "The Brews".

I'd like to call the next show a Pre-Party... or maybe a tribute show? I'm just concerned with the potential for selling out. I don't want to use the sacred name in vein.

How would you guys feel about playing something like that? Any suggestions for making sure it's a genuine party for people who just can't wait another week for real punk? If you were Fat Mike how would something like that make you feel? Cheep and taken advantage of or pleased with the enthusiasm?

It's not a pre-party if it's a week before the other show. Anybody who cares about the NOFX show will probably already know about it. I would just hype it at your show, but not put anything on the fliers.

Sacred name? They're just another band who happened to get famous - if you want to honor them with your show in some way, they should be, well... honored.

@ Bird, we're trying to get more people to our show, who are already going to the NOFX show. In part to have a packed crowd at the small bar/tatt shop, and also to share the night with likeminded folks. They know about the NOFX show... It's the show a week before that they'll still love they don't know about... how do we tell them they'll be among friends?

@gus They're just like everybody else, yes, and very down to earth, but they're also leaders in a genre that's about your approach and ethos. Fat Mike is in the same "room" as Ian Mckaye in my eyes (i'll give myself kudos for that pun intended MT reference). Whereas Motley Crue and their fans might be much more open to blatant rippoffs, and usual music business promotion, The bands that will be playing that night, and the band we'll be looking forward to seeing the week after, would all be very turned off by a disingenuous cheeseball promotional tactic.

I'll also defend the "just another band" thing. They started their own record label. An extremely respectable one at that. Few and far between are bands that have made it for 30 years and sold that many records without signing to a major.
