Hi there,
yep this is my first time (virgin-like feeling or it depends) posting here.
So I'm a guitar player since a few years now and I play 6 and 7 strings axes. In the last weeks I've been thinking about starting to play bass. My 2 main motivations are: -expand my musical world and feeling, -I've been in 2 bands playing guitar (they split for different reasons) and for the moment I only know bands seeking bassplayers, so why not give it a try.
I'm mostly into metal, so there seems to be a Spector Legend calling out for me (yeah I've already read many threads here).
Now guys, what kind of advice, warnings, promises can you give me? Looking forward to your answers!!

Maybe I should be more specific. What kind of advice can you give me about the beginning in the 4 string world. What are the main difficulties/cool things and if I play with a plecktrum will it be easier for me?

Metal mixes nicely with 5-string bases. (some metal bands that come to mind that have 5-string bases: Slipknot, Mushroomhead, Stone Sour, Children of Bodom, Korn, Mudvayne, etc...) You might want to consider going right to a 5 if you're in a metal band.

just my 2 cents...

A friend of mine told me it's pretty difficult to make a 5-string sound GOOD. He said that the frequency is so low that it gets very muddy. What's your opinion?
But that option is interesting because it would make it easier to write songs for my 7-string as it is also in B, well actually Drop-A.
