I always felt like my left had was better suited for a mallet than a bass. I struggle with 34" scales and hate guys on YouTube with finders like Edward Scissorhands. Consider this the first post of the Short & Wide Lefty Club. |

I have the same issue, and it caused me years of heart ache while playing the cello. I hated all those damned long, slender fingered players!
This is a common thing, I think, as when I buy golf gloves, I have to get what's called a "cadet" glove. It has shorter fingers and bigger palm size

Over here, they call hands like that 'frying pans' lol.
I have no problem with 34'' or 35'' at all though. My short fingers led me to adopt Double Bass Fingering instead of One Finger Per Fret though, and I think it helped me a lot, especially down there where the money's at.

I played a 35" scale lakland 5 for a year and had no problems with it either.
I think your issues migth be with your technique and not you hand size.

This is a possibility. OP, perhaps you could check out some L/H technique.
I'm sure your hands are larger than Carol Kaye's and she says that her hand's size was never a problem.

I play a 32" scale right now which has been a happy "medium." I'm still weighing the pro's and cons of a shorty. |

Once your technique is good, then with time and practice your hands will get used to the bass. It is also a good idea ( a must do, actually ) to do gentle stretches for a few minutes before playing.
Here is a link to L/H technique from a fellow TB'r : http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=VRkS...eature=channel
