Not sure if this is in the right section.
I have played bass for over 35 years and have had 15- 20 basses. Except for a 5 year period I have played steady. I realized the other day that I have only 1 strap, and its the second strap I've ever owned. No spare, and no worry that it's going to break or disappear. It's the most comfortable, worn in thing that I own. It's made of a fire hose type of material, freyed, the button openings (?) are larger than they should be, and it's 34 years old. I know I should at least have a spare, but nothing out there does it for me. Does anybody else have only one strap?

Yep, each of my basses has one strap
I don't have any pics to share but the majority of my straps are Levys. They just seem to fit me right and they have a great selection so every bass has a different style strap that fits the personality of that bass.

mine are usually levys or the demarzio ones that bolt in to your bass

My Peavey canvas and nylon beauties, got them both used no less. Had them about 20 years. The purple is the second strap I ever owned and the only strap I have used since '91. The red one is a back up I bought in a pawnshop in '93 but I have never used it, too skinny. I have a couple more straps somewhere, all cheapies that came free with various basses but its the purple I have used exclusively for 20 years.

Heck...if we're going THAT way:

Here's a few that I have.

2 "Austins" and 1 "Memphis". These are my favorite straps..hands down. http://www.lmproducts.com/images/eyelandpages.jpg.
2 in "black and amber" Black Leather Guitar Strap by Italia. Very HIGH quality for the price. Softe and supple.
1 PM-23 in brown PM23 - Levy's Leathers
1 GRETSCH 6332 TOOLED RUSSETT in Walnut. Looks and feels great on my mahagony bodie Telecaster (yes, I own guitars, too). Amazon.com: STRAP - 1 GRETSCH 6332 TOOLED RUSSETT: Musical Instruments
1 Gretsch Artist DN Series humdinger (looks nice but not very tough) Amazon.com: STRAP - Gretsch Artist DN Series humding: Musical Instruments

I made it from a seatbelt out of my first car when it went to the big scrap yard in the sky... It was a b*tch trying to sew through a seatbelt!

The rest of my straps are really boring standard black nylon things and one wide leather one on my epi EB3.

I use a really wide leather strap (Minotaur Online Store) which is quite nice, but not as soft as I would like. It will have to do for now though.

I use a Planet Waves leather strap. DAddarioPlanet Waves » Instrument Accessories > Straps » Leather Straps » Icon Series Leather Straps Mine doesn't appear , but it's similar to the celtic one.
I also have a wider leather one I bought in a pawn shop the other day.
Slightly off-topic, does anyone know what that little string that sometimes comes with straps is for? Such as this one:

Tying on to the headstock of an acoustic guitar, some people prefer them that way.

I basically quit gigging about eighteen years ago. I would play unplugged around the house, but since I was generally sitting or lying down I didn't worry about my strap for a long time. When I started playing occasionally with other people again, I discovered my favorite strap had disappeared.

I have several leather straps now, all from Levy's. Some are about fifteen or so years old. And they are all okay. But none are truly awesome. All are at least 3" wide, some are 4", one is 4and a half. Some are plain, some less so. Most are pretty soft, some less so.

I guess I'm just saying I miss my soft old plain solid black tooled leather 4" strap.

Some I have now:
This brown-ish one (Mine looks a little redder brown)for my fretless Jazz:MSS2-4 - Levy's Leathers
One of these for my 12-string acoustic:M26GF - Levy's Leathers
One like this , but black and wider for my 55-02d:PM44T01 - Levy's Leathers
One of these in black for my fretted Jazz. It's a little too stiff.:PM44T01 - Levy's Leathers
I can't find the ones that I have on my Tele or my Dot. But one is black and one is brown and they are as soft and plain as I could find. The one on my Hamer is kind of maroon-orange-ish suede and has a sort of metallic copper thread celtic knot repeating on it. It was a gift. It's also part of why I get plain ones, given a choice.
