charlie hunter is doing 4 weeks in a row at Rose live music in brooklyn. last time i went to see a show there, they tried to not let my girlfriend and I in (both 18 with ID, when i emailed they said 18 is fine.) eventually they did, but only if we "promised to buy drinks, but no alchohol." we agreed.. about 20 minutes into the show the guy from the door came up to me, gave me a shove and asked "wheres your soda? go get one." i reluctantly agreed, then he added "and make it a f____ing big one.." instead of going to the bar, i left.
now, i wanna see charlie hunter real bad- i'm huge into his stuff, i love his new album that he just released.. but if i skip these shows, he prob wont be back in NY for a while, seeing as how hes doing a whole month here.
so, would you go anyway, or say screw that and just wait till next time around? |

Clubs either let you in with a seperate stamp for non-alcohol patrons, or don't let you in at all. But to single you out like that is just wrong.
I'd try to get in touch with someone in the office, relate your story, and ask if you're going to get treated like scum the next time you come to the place. They owe you not only some assurance of better treatment, but an apology and a couple of free sodas IMHO.
If they give you any lip, skip it. And let them know you and your friends will be skipping their events into the indefinite future.

such a bummer. i wish charlie hunter, or any other musicians, were more aware of the repuation these clubs have.. im sure theyre nice when they deal with someone whos going to draw a huge crowd 4 weeks in a row.. but theyre rediculously rude to his fans.. |

An act that has enough pull to book that long a stretch of time also has enough pull to tell an owner that they don't appreciate their fans being roughed up. |

If I was a bar owner I would never let people who aren't drinking/eating and not paying a cover into my business; they are preventing me from making money with a paying body; however your cover should get you through the door if that's the case.

It's a hustle, plain and simple. They're trying to increase their profits by forcing a kid to pay $8.00 for a soda just because other legals are buying alcoholic beverages.
Pathetic.

Pathetic. | if the guy just came up and said listen, we need you to buy something, i would've been happy too. but pushing me and telling me to go buy a "f---ing big one" is rediculous..
i've decided to skip on those shows anyway. it pisses me off though, that Rose live music is a pretty popular venue, one of the more common ones in the brooklyn area.. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
