My chick singer would look fantastic hanging off one of these Shure 55SH Series II Vocal Classic Dynamic Microphone | eBay
I googled "fake sh-55", "counterfeit sh-55" and got zip, zero, like nobody is counterfeiting them. Good to go?

One from a reputable dealer is what, $20 more expensive?
I wouldn't risk it, there s(h)ure are plenty of copies of the various 55's around so I wouldn't risk it turning out to be a T-Bone or eqvivalent.
My 0.02€.

They aren't too bad at all! We were really surprised!
Yeah, there are certainly similar looking mics around. If you def. want the Shure one, I'd pay the bit extra at a legit shop.

As the seller. If there's even a hint of questionable-ness, then don't buy it. There are TONS of fakes out there. Tons. For every single make and every single model. Several of my friends have been burned, and bought utter garbage. One of them bought 2 or 3 SM-57s from someone off of craigslist. He said he got them from GC a couple of years ago, and had all the boxes and documentation - manuals and everything. We tossed them on the drums, and two broke when the drummer hit them. SM-57s are solidly built. When two break, it was a red flag. We looked at the interiors, and they were garbage.
In any event, be very careful when buying mics from online. I'd NEVER do it off Ebay. There's absolutely no way to know if you're getting a fake or not, unless you know that you're dealing with a reputable dealer AND the mics are brand new from the dealer. I wouldn't even buy used mics at Guitar Center or other stores. Tracing them is difficult. Also, the salesmen at GC barely understand the stock they have, and it's unlikely that a salesman at GC would know the difference between a fake and the real one. Craigslist is better since you can really probe the seller. |

If a $150 mic turns out to be a $50 (or less) mic with a Shure sticker, I sure would be POed.
Don't obviously know about anyone else... i_got_a_mohawk, thank's for the info, I may have to check the T-Bone out. If the housing is sturdy and roomy enough, replacing the capsule and the transformer isn't all that difficult if the sound isn't to my liking.

I love Behringer's XM8500 duplicate of the SM58. I got three of those and they sound perfectly fine to me without A/B testing. Outwardly near identical to the SM except for the paintjob and label.

It was a copy as I fully expected but it is a very good sounding mic. I prefer the sound for my voice over a genuine SM58.
I just clicked the Ebay link and it has been removed so I bet it was a fake.
