Shut my index finger in the car door :(

Hey folks,

This morning i shut my index finger on my right hand (plucking hand) in the car door It has been throbbing with pain all day, really is killing me. It isn't broken, i can bend, it but it hurts like hell. The nail is now black, well underneath it, which is blood i presume. My sister says i could put a red hot needle through the nail to release the blood, thus probably stopping it hurt as much. The problem is i have a gig in a few days, i really dunno what to do ??

HOME SURGERY: If you can sterilize a needle, put it underneath the front of the nail, so you pierce the tissue that holds your nail to your finger. This is a significantly better idea than actually piercing your whole nail.

BETTER ADVICE: Contact a doctor.

I was thinking going down the doctor route ... It would kinda make sense to get that sort of thing done in a relativly sterile enviorment to minimise infection. Due to the nail being 'dead' anyway i guess it would actually hurt that bad ?

I went to the Minor Injuries Clinic today. I was seen promptly, they x-ray'd it, nothing was broken Then the nurse put this hot thing through my nail and loads of blood 'spurtted' out. *nice* It feels much better but she says it won't return to normal for about 4-5 weeks. I guess she emant thats how long the nail will take to renew, it shouldn't take my actual finger longer than a couple of weeks.

I did that once w/ the same finger. Hurt like hell! I'd say keep it elevated as much as you can until the gig. That is going to hurt, though, when you have to hold it down all night and it starts throbbing. Best of luck w/ that one!

Well, looks like you need to play the gig with your middle finger. Don't worry, it's a noisy bastard.

I dropped a pallet on my toe a while back, the doctor told me she could do the pin thing but there was really no use, so my nail was black for weeks and a new nail grew underneath it and pushed it out, now my current nail is all stupid looking, really wish I had of just let that blood out...
