everybody does something unique when they have a bass in their hands, a strap over their shoulder and a band pumping behind them...

please share what that unique thing is for you!

i played on the weekend at church, and i was MD aswell, trying to get the dynamics and groove flowing etc...and my girlfriend did a sort of imitation of me afterwards.

as far as i can tell, if im trying to get the band to lift, i stomp with my left foot forward, sort of like les claypool. if im trying to just enjoy moving and getting into it, a bend my leg from the knee, and stub my toes into the ground on the beat.

i was doing the trad latin 2 step in the funkier stuff...

but on the last tune of the night, i let another bass player have a go, and he was carving up the stage, running around in circles, jumping off the drum riser, spinning, dancing.... and it only SLIGHTLY affected his playing. i feel i need a foot on the ground at all times.... trying to learn to break that tho... he looks like he has heaps more fun then i do.

What mannerisms do you guys have, when you play and get into it?
stories!

I often put one leg slighty forward and throw my head back during the more inspiring passages I play. I also do a Mark King style "bob head, chew gum" kinda thing, I guess.

I don't "think" about how I'm moving, but I move in different ways to keep the beat and/or feel the groove better.

sometimes I'll stand with legs close together and lift my toes of each foot alternately. other times I'll march in place. and my favorite, apparently is twist left and right to the beat of the music like I'm some weather vane in a changing wind.
