If you're going to go for it, may as well REALLY go for it!

TWENTY-SEVEN strings!

Actually, based on the clip I think it sounds pretty cool.

I wonder what he needs the extra treble strings for. I get the bass part; it's just like a harp guitar. Are the extra treble strings just for sympathetic resonance?

It does sound cool. From the sound I wonder if some of the strings are sympathetic, like a sitar.

Pat Metheny sometimes plays a 42 string "harp guitar" called a pikasso.

The strings are wrapped backwards around the pegs... that would get to me...

But it looks like a guitar with extra open strings to play as pedal notes or for sustain... kind of like a harp...

but still interesting

That is standard fare for fingerpickers & classical guitarists. They spend more on their right hand nails, with the right nail files, cuticle sissors, clippers, orangewood sticks, hardener polish, etc., than does even the most persnickety lady. They won't shake hands with you, and forget asking them to partake in any recreational sport that might have even the slightest chance of damaging a nail. It's just the territory they live in.
