Slap Plates? Any cons?

ive heard of slap plates wich is a metal plate u put after the last fret or somethin like that wich gives u that normal slap tone from a frettd while still being a fretless. anyone used these? And how much wud they cost and wud just a piece of metal do?

I could be wrong, but I thought it went at the end of a fretless fingerboard; when you slapped over it, it gave it a bit of that "bite" that slapping on a fretted bass would give.
maybe...

Yeah looks like a typo in his post. You put them on a fretless.

Lol, yeh a typo=S Spudmaster, u put them there so that you get a more fretted bass slap tone.

I personally like slapping on the fretless without a slap plate. I don't think of the fretless slap sound as better or worse, just different. It might be less useful for some things but if you are creative it shouldn't be a problem, unless you just barely get any sound.

But does slap plates sound likea fretless when u play normal, and is the slapping fretted like? How wud one install a slap plate? just put a piece of steel=P?
