slapping an acoustic bass guitar???

yeah i have a friend who does that as a hobby and... that can't be good for it... is he hurting it? because it sounds terrible and when i pick it up to try that i feel like the string will snap...

It's fine. Maybe a little more fret wear than regular playing, but nothing to worry about.

Gee, upright players dont do that, do they!

Proper slap doenst have to be wicked aggressive, in fact, if you watch a master its all about subltely!

if you say so... it's just... it doesn't sound nearly as good as it does over an actual electric bass

Yup, fine on acoustic, I do it quiet often, never had any problems.

I personally think it's a very groovy tone when you slap an acoustic. Just one of those "different stroke for different folks" things, I guess.

yeah did a search on youtube for stuff like that and yeah... what i saw was amazing on an acoustic... my friend's sounded like a blender w/ nails in it

i was rather impressed with this

I guess if you can slap on an acoustic guitar you can slap on an acoustic bass guitar too.
